Objective Representation

Have you ever felt that a certain inanimate object represents you? Maybe you dreamed it, or saw it and felt a connection?  For the past few years, I have had just that.

I was visiting an old fortress in Spain, and from a turret you could look down at the water and see a little red dinghy just floating there.  For some reason, I connected to this red dinghy, I knew how it felt.  I’ve made drawings where I semi-consciously inserted a red dinghy on some body of water, to represent myself in the scene.  I have a few photos of various little red boats from all over the world, some moored, some floating, some motorized, some beached or overturned.  Can I say why this represents me?  Not a clue. Perhaps it is a similar feeling of “being adrift”?  I’m open to any interpretations though.

New and Improved Bucket List

It seems the more places you go, the more places you want to go.  There is so much to see and do in the world, it’s almost overwhelming!  I’ve updated my list (and categorized it by region!)  Who knows if I will ever be able to see it all!

Bucket List Update

You may recall a post where I added things to my bucket list once I started working on ships (this one). I can now say, that after my last contract I have accomplished the following things on my bucket list…

Hike up a mountain – I’ve hiked a few all over the world, but I have yet to hike to the summit, so I can only halfway cross this off…
Swim with dolphins – Would like to try it in a natural setting, not a giant swimming pool
Horseback ride in water
Horseback ride bareback – have to to ride them in the water!
Stand under a waterfall – I visited/climbed 4 of them in 4 different countries!
Ride a camel – I did this in two countries: Jamaica and Tunisia!
See Mayan ruins
Pub Crawl (in a foreign city) – I went on an awesome one in London!
Visit the Ice Bar – Went to the original one in Stockholm, but apparently there are better ones elsewhere, perhaps this will stay on my list for now 😉

These two were done in my last contract….
-Lumberjack show
-Help in a beach cleanup

I have also now danced in other countries, stayed in a hostel, and had an understandable conversation with someone in another language (they understand my French in Tunisia!)

I also thought of a few new things to add to my list as my new itineraries open up more possibilities….

  • Attend a concert in a cave
  • Tour “Wine Country” in California
  • See wild kangaroos and koalas
  • Experience a “White Night”
  • See the Northern Lights
  • Visit all 7 continents
  • Go to a “swim-up” bar
  • Visit an Egyptian pyramid
  • Attend a Carnaval celebration
  • Visit all the Disneylands
  • Participate in a Flash Mob
  • Ride an elephant

I know I will get to cross a few of these off soon as my next journey takes me to the top of the world and then over to Asia!

2011 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 1,400 times in 2011. If it were a cable car, it would take about 23 trips to carry that many people.

Dear Love

Dear Love,

It was very nice meeting you the other day, but now I am sad that you had to go away.  Our time together was much too short, I dare say.  I searched my whole life for you, I wrote about you as a child.  It seems a cruel twist of fate I find you now, when it is too late.  I hope to see you again someday, preferably before I am old and gray.  I’d be a liar if I said I didn’t pray, for another twist of fate to bring us back together.  But our luck doesn’t work that way, remember?

I work so hard to find you and keep you, and I lose you still, I wonder why I even bother, I doubt if you ever will.

Sometimes I wonder, if I’ll ever see you again, Love.  And even if I do, will it ever be the same?  I’ll always remember how it was before you never even called me by my name.

Until we meet again, Love, I hope you’ll remember me here all alone.  I hope you’ll return one day and stay and then I can finally be at home.

Yours Truly,

Me

Quick and Shameless Self-Promotion

I like to think my blog slowly gains hits (and when I say slowly, I mean tortuga!)  I’m not sure whether they are from friends or strangers as few tend to leave comments.  It is also noticed that while I love my blog posts (and see them as probably the more interesting to read),  I can’t help but feel my poetry, which was the original purpose of my blog, goes unnoticed.  I do not post them in the main blog feed as I consider them more fixed than fleeting thoughts and events.  And they have proven themselves consistently relevant time and again.  In any case, they can be found at the top of the page under “POETRY” and are listed in chronological order, though the chronology spans over a decade!  Anywho, they’re there, so read them if you like.  K, thanks.

Hello world!

I started this blog in hopes that it will be more popular than my previous attempts at blogging. But I also realize it’s less private than my live journal, so I will probably still keep that up.  Also, I like the fact that I can design it like my own website (way better than myspace!). I used to have a website with all my poems and artwork on it.  That is what I intend to do with this. Although, bare with me as I slowly get all my poems up and figure out how to format them (hey, I’ve got 10 years worth of ’em to post!).  I hope that this site will reflect me better than any other of my previous sites (save maybe my facebook, but that’s been over run with posts from Farmville, lol!).
